David Michie
Born in France and son of the Scottish painter Anne Redpath, David studied painting at Edinburgh College of Art. Teaching at Gray’s School of art from 1958-62 and then Edinburgh College of art from 1962 he was Head of Drawing and Painting until 1990. Appointed Chair at Heriot watt University and a member of Museums and galleries commission from 1992-1996, David has Travelled extensively in America and Australia and was a visiting artist at the University of California and University of Arts in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1979.Winner of many awards to include David Cargill RGI award, Sir William Gillies Travelling Scholarship and Year of Culture Special Prize at the RWA in 1992 he attained an OBE in 1997.
Working in oil and watercolour his semi abstract paintings reveal the artists fascination with nature in all its drama; plants, birds and insects and his figurative paintings capture man’s idiosyncratic behaviour; street performers, jazz players, swimmers portraying his subjects with such finesse and skill.
