Leo McDowell RI

Studied Modern Languages at Universities of Manchester and Cambridge and History of Art at Innsbruck University, Leo spend eight years teaching in the Middle East and participated in archaeological studies and excavations in North Africa, Turkey, Cyprus and Jordan. He painted extensively during this period and his work showed a clear influence of Islamic, Byzantine and Etruscan Art. Exhibiting in many sell out solo and group shows in the UK, Paris and Tokyo he is an elected member of the RI and was awarded the Windsor and Newton prize in 1990. His work is in many prestigious collections worldwide.

Working in mixed media the chalky surface embeds reoccurring motifs and images of his past and present. His skilful use of line colour and style fuse to creating his vision of utopia.
