Alan Cotton
Born in 1936 Alan attended Redditch, Bourneville and Birmingham Schools of Art and Birmingham University. Senior lecturer in Painting and Art History at Rolle College Exmouth he resigned to paint full time in 1982.
In the late sixties he moved to Devon a huge inspiration for him which lead to several works in major public collections. Past president and founder member of the SW Academy of Fine and Applied Arts he has served on many art committees in the SW of England. Having had numerous sell out solo shows his works are in many prestigious collections worldwide and there have been many publications and numerous television films made by and about the artist. Alan was invited by HRH Prince of Wales to be his tour artist and accompany him to Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
The malleability of oil paint excited Alan even as a child and governed his decision to use the palette knife. His paintings are a voyage of discovery through his use of thrilling colour and exciting marks.
